fabric

2015, 6 channel sound installation

Fabric recognizes and celebrates the crucial role of services and administrative staff in the day to day running of University College Dublin. It acknowledges the role support workers play in making a campus with the population of 40,000 people run smoothly.  They are the fabric that hold it all together. The work by the people involved in this work is not often acknowledged and this work aimed to do just that.

The sound installation consists of six testimonies around the experience of working in UCD over many years. They presents memories, reflections, anecdotes and the vast knowledge of the last three decade of campus life. The work was made possible by the invaluable contributions of Mel Fitzgerald, Kathleen Berigan, Kevin McCabe, Declan Hyland, Noel Doyle and Deirdre Brophy.
